I enjoy raising awareness in the local community about simple/sustainable living.  One of the best ways is to get your mug into the local newspaper.

Sure, the headlines are usually corny, but hey, who cares?  Any press is good press as far as I am concerned when it comes to promoting lower consumption, simplicity, and growing your own food.

A big shout out goes to my friend Emma from The Off Grid Solar House for organising the interview with the Melton Leader.

Not a bad little story, if I do say so myself.  Hopefully more folks will reach out in my local community.

One of my regular Suburban Food Farm updates, this time for late spring.  We, hopefully, had our last frost of the season, so I have been going crazy in the garden planting up this season’s crops.

It certainly kept me busy for most of the long weekend we had here in Victoria.

I also talked about the method I use to harvest broad beans.  I mention the nitrogen nodules that grow on the roots.  For those who have never seen them, here is a photo I took the other day.

Near the end of the cast, I let you know about a recent newspaper interview which should appear in the Melton Leader soon, and a little about a blogging course that I taught last night, which is the reason the podcast episode is a day later than normal.

Also, if you live in the Melbourne area, and are interested in attending a very reasonably priced Blogging for Beginners course ($48 for 5 hour course), leave me a comment so I can gauge interest.  I am in two minds as if I should to run another one due to the fact that it took over 8 months to fill this course.

Residential Solar Hits Mainstream TV

And all that I can say is about bloody time, and well done.

This short segment was seen on Weekend Sunrise which airs on Channel 7 here in Australia.  It is a national show that has a viewership of around 312,000 people in the five main state capitals.  That’s a lot of eyes on the screen taking in the news that solar is good for the hip pocket, and for the environment.

I was very impressed, and the hosts seemed to be well researched in the subject.

Being the proud owner of rooftop solar for over 7 years, I can attest that residential solar PV does save the homeowner money, and drastically cuts your family’s GHG emissions.  Win-win for all concerned!

Who would love to see more of this on telly?  Maybe I should make my own show and visit people with solar on their roof and get them to tell me how much they like it, and how cool it is.  Food for thought, don’t you think?
